Campaign Introduction:

Hello UBC Chemistry Graduate Students! During the past two years I have made event planning and coordinating student involvement through the CGSS part of my daily graduate student routine. In my first year on council I was the First-Year Representative, where I organized the Christmas Skits, first-year events, and the Periodic Scavenger Hunt. This past year, I was part of the team that re-invented CGSS social events to accommodate physical distancing health and safety requirements that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic. This included, a socially distanced pumpkin carving contest, virtual paint and movie nights, and the Amazing Race. Recently, I planned our first in-person events, the CGSS August BBQ and the PNE event. I organized virtual fundraisers, where we raised over $1200 collectively for BLM Vancouver and the CGSS Outreach Award. I have been an active member on committees, such as the Graduate Student Initiatives Committee and the Graduate Research Symposium Committee. Through these associations I have learned how to plan and implement the Graduate Student Forum and the Graduate Research Symposium events as both in-person and online formats. For many of us, this past year has highlighted the importance of community, this is a value that I have worked to foster in our department by using my platform with the CGSS. Acting as Vice President and the experience I gained from serving on the CGSS council will give me the ability to continue promoting student engagement and developing our sense of community throughout our department.
