Wellness Representative Nominee: Naysilla Larassati Dayanara

Nominee Details

Nominated Role: Wellness Representative
Year in Department: 3rd
Lab Group: Perrin

Campaign Introduction:

Hi UBC! My name is Naysilla Dayanara and I'm a 3rd-year Grad Student in the Perrin Lab. I'm particularly interested in joining CGSS in the role of a Wellness Representative because I believe that students' health and wellbeing intersect with all aspects of academia and I want to advocate for issues that have been previously unaddressed in the department. I think Health and Wellness is the breathing core of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts, mentorship, work-life balance, as well as community building.

I’ve realized when addressing and dismantling the barriers to seeking support, we must understand that finding a resource that suits individual needs can be an intimidating and difficult process to navigate. As such, I believe that an outreach and follow-up initiative could be beneficial to CGSS members struggling to find help. This could be in the form of partnering with Peer Support and Nurse on Campus programs offered by the university.

I have previous experience during my Undergraduate degree as a Residence Advisor and Orientation Leader for first-year students, and I believe these roles have prepared me to carry the duties and responsibilities of a CGSS Wellness Representative. Furthermore, I am a certified QPR Gatekeeper since 2015 and it has since been a passion of mine to offer my community the support needed.
